How does one go about paying thousands of dollars in a private sale? The ATM ain’t gonna cut it…

I’m very interested in (another) boat, going for about $8K. It’s used from the owner, so it’s not like he’s gonna finance it or anything. Is this a PayPal kinda scenario? Venmo? He might take a personal check if I show him my balances maybe? My last boat was only $2K, and I split it with my father, and the seller was an acquaintance. So he took two checks for $1000 without question. But when I see boats going on FB Marketplace for, say, $18,000 or whatever, how the hell do people pay for these? Are we actually expected to get that from a bank in paper form? A certified check is just as risky... How do we do this in 2021?
